Hey Fresh Face Beauties and FlawLESS fans! This is the destination where we focus LESS on flaws and more on the beauty within. As you know, I am Dr. Candrice, your favorite, fun, board-certified dermatologist. I am your go-to girl for everything healthy hair, skin and nails. I was inspired to become a dermatologist after watching my sister get teased over a skin condition she was born with. I’m passionate about what I do!

Boy have I got some info for you today! Stress can destroy your hair, skin and nails. Are you ready? Let’s dive in.

Here are 5 ways your hair, skin and nails say you are stressed that you probably didn’t know. If you know some of the things below, then you must be a joining me on my Facebook, Periscope and Instagram Live Streams.

  1. Your hair can fall out! Telogen effluvium is a hair loss condition that involves hair shedding from the root about 3 months after a stressful event. Illness, emotional stress, starting or stopping some medications, child-birth, surgery, death of a loved one are SOME of the things that may trigger telogen effluvium. Thank goodness this is a non-scarring hair loss and the hair re-grows.
  2. You can pick your skin knowingly or unknowingly. Are you feeling that irresistible urge to pick the skin? That could be your way of dealing with stress. But, hunti… please don’t pick. Get help!! There is nothing wrong with talking to an expert therapist, wellness coach or other provider who can give practical stress lowering and stress coping techniques. Inhale, hold, exhale…. I’m feeling better already. Wusaaaaaa
  3. If you already have an inflammatory skin condition, like eczema, stress may lead to increased itching. Yikes!
  4. And my, my, my acne flares can plague your skin during times of stress. Exam acne flare? Heart-break acne flare? Relaxation techniques may indirectly help to prevent acne flares.
  5. Oh…. I can’t leave out nail biting! Not only is it damaging to the nails, it’s kinda gross… just think about the dirt and bacteria under your nails. Uh oh.

Yes, stress can show in your hair, skin and nails!!!!!
